Malibu Beach Day Outfit Essentials for Your Summer 2022 Wardrobe!

It was a beautiful day at El Matador Beach, Malibu. I love the feeling of the beginning of Summer when the sun starts to get a little bit warmer and stays out a little bit longer. I love the feeling of fresh ocean air and natural ocean hair.

Summer clothing is my favorite type of clothing, just because it feels so carefree and truly reflects the southern California aesthetic. Your summer beach outfit can feel like resort wear with a few simple tweaks.

I love large brim hats for long days spent at the beach. Large brim hats are perfect to pair with your favorite sunglasses and make you feel like Brigette Bardot. They are the ultimate sun protection since no umbrella is needed (literally). You can simply hide under the hat and fall asleep, listening to the ocean waves. Or let it fold naturally in half in the front while you’re walking for a relaxed look, or for when you need to drink a martini.

A medium sized straw hat is also perfect for a Malibu beach day outfit. A medium sized hat is like your everyday floppy hat and is still perfect to get some shade from the sun.

I love hand woven bags for the beach. Hand woven bags are something special, because they usually only come out during vacation or summer time. My favorites are made of real straw and are hand woven in secluded beachy places such as Colombia or the little towns in Mexico. When you wear a hand woven beach bag it reminds you of the first breath of fresh air when you land at your destination.

Many times people assume you can only wear skinny jeans or straight legged pant with thigh highs, but try mixing it up with cargos! Just keep the rest of the outfit simple.

In order to keep your look classy, especially with thigh high snakeskin boots, try pairing your flowy skirt with a long sleeved top. In this case, a turtleneck :)

Where did I shop for these over the knee snakeskin boots? I actually found these in a small boutique on Melrose Ave. They are not name brand or designer, but the quality has still held up well.

As long as you are comfortable and can walk easily!.. and the shape and material are on point, go for it.

Day in the Life in L.A.: One Day/One Night in Los Angeles

Welcome to my blog post on suggestions of things to do if you have one day in Los Angeles! My grandmother and mom visited, so the feel we were going for was relaxing, beautiful, stimulating, yet chic. Below are the 3 places we went to for one beautiful day in L.A. Also, scroll down for the pics!

LA in-a-day itinerary:

1. Lunch at Duke’s Malibu in Malibu, overlooking the ocean.

   Duke’s restaurant is right beside the ocean and right off the PCH highway. The booths right next to the window have beautiful views of the waves, and sometimes you can see dolphins. Duke’s has brunch on Sunday’s, outside seating, and a bar. It’s a great restaurant for families as well as friends. I ordered a cold brew coffee in a glass bottle and a vegetarian burger :) I loved it. Check out Duke’s in Malibu website here. Duke’s is also close by the Getty Villa, where we went after lunch.

2. Museum day at The Getty Villa in Pacific Palisades.

   Next, we went to The Getty Villa. The Getty Villa is a beautiful museum in itself and features ancient Greek and Roman art. It’s located in the Pacific Palisades overlooking the ocean. It is perfect for spending a day with friends or with family. The museum is free, but you need to make a reservation beforehand. Check out the Getty Villa website here.

3. Check-in at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills.

   After our day spent in Malbu at Duke’s and the Getty Villa, we headed for check-in at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, which is about an hour drive away from Malibu. The Beverly Hilton is known for its history in Hollywood, and hosts annual Grammy’s parties and the Golden Globes, and more. The Beverly Hilton has a restaurant by the pool, a bar, a modern spa with cryotherapy chambers, a beautiful pool, event spaces, and the rooms have beautiful views of Los Angeles. 4. Dinner at the Beverly Hilton outside by the pool.

   Since the restaurant at the Beverly Hilton is already chic and fun, we had dinner outside by the pool. The food is amazing. I ordered a vegetarian pizza and had a velvet chocolate dessert. Sitting outside at the Beverly Hilton is also so relaxing, they have a fun old fashioned iconic bar that’s outside by the pool. The hotel gave me a to-go box for my pizza, which is super cute. 5. Breakfast at the Beverly Hilton outside by the pool.

   In the morning, we had breakfast by the pool of the Beverly Hilton again, since it’s so nice to sit outside there by the palm trees and pool and we were also looking for some relaxation to our one day Los Angeles trip. The Beverly Hilton provides enough fun to stay there and enjoy anyway. However, for the last part of the day for your one day/one night in LA and want to try somewhere different for breakfast, the Beverly Hilton is located near tons of restaurants in downtown Beverly Hills by Rodeo. It’s walking distance from the hotel if you like to take a half-mile walk, or, it is a very short drive.

6. The end of a relaxing, beautiful, stimulating yet chic stay of one day /one-night stay in Los Angeles!

Hourglass Cosmetics Makeup Brushes

WHY I LOVE THEM: Oh my gosh. I looooveee Hourglass Cosmetic’s makeup brushes! I have tried so many different makeup brushes from several brands….

Hourglass’s makeup brushes are sooo soft, dense, and do not pull on your skin when applying makeup. The tug and pulling on my skin is something I’ve noticed from most makeup brushes (even high end brands) that I’ve used, especially if it has denser bristles. These brushes are dense, yet STILL so soft with NO tugging and pulling. They also last for years so they’re worth the investment!

HOW TO USE THEM:

No1 Powder Brush (top brush on the right): This brush works great for application of liquid foundation or mineral foundation. I applied Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet Smooth-Effect Makeup Foundation with this brush. The bristles are made of Taklon hair, which is more hygienic and kinder to animals (since Taklon is not sourced from animals).

Retractable Foundation Brush (middle brush pictured) This brush is amazing for traveling. It can be used as your regular foundation brush, or bronzer, etc.. This brush is also great for blending in your makeup after application, if there are any harsh lines left over. Also uses soft Taklon bristles.

Ambient Powder Brush I applied my blush with this brush, right under the cheek bones. Also uses soft Taklon bristles. Compact, softttttt, dense bristles and beautiful.

Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet Smooth-Effect Makeup

WHY I LOVE IT: I’ve tried sooo many foundations and Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet Smooth-Effect is my favorite by far! The color blends in seamlessly, no orange tone, and is lightweight, yet still buildable. The finish IS soft like velvet. It’s a great foundation during the day AND going out at night. This works great over sunscreen, bare face, or at night—over a serum or primer. Absolutely love this foundation.

HOW TO APPLY IT: Use an Hourglass foundation brush No1 or their Retractable Foundation Brush to apply, or, your favorite brush, beauty blender, etc.

Alima Pure Lip Tint in “Paprika”

WHY I LOVE IT: Alima Pure Lip Tints are like beneficial lip balms transformed into rich lip tints. This lip tint is like a skincare makeup hybrid. I love the lip benefitting ingredients in this formula, cocoa butter, jojoba oil, pumpkin seed oil, camellia seed oil, olive oil, punica oil, coconut oil, and more. It’s also preservative free.

HOW TO APPLY IT: I apply this tint with my finger for a lip color enhancing shade. The shades of the lip tints are very rich, and depending how you apply it, it can be worn as a lipstick or a lip enhancing tint.

WHY I LOVE IT: Most of the time when I wear this mascara, someone compliments the color and asks me where I got my mascara. Yves Saint Laurent’s formula in Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils is buildable to create a dramatic lash or can be applied lightweight with one or 2 coats. HOWEVER—the deep violet purple shade is what keeps me loyal and so excited for this mascara year after year. It’s such a deep beautiful shade. It’s a dark deep purple, so the color purple is only noticeable if someone stares closely at your eyelashes in direct sunlight. (This happened a few times while I was wearing this, and in a good way, ends in compliments and asking “what mascara is that?”)

HOW TO APPLY IT: If you have blue or green eyes you will LOVE this shade. The purple shade enhances blue eye colors. If you have brown eyes, try the burgundy shade. It will enhance your brown eyes.

Beach Day in Malibu

It’s now Summer in Los Angels and I love how warm it’s getting here! My favorite beaches in Los Angeles include Point Dume in Malibu, Paradise Cove in Malibu, and of course the left side of the Santa Monica Pier.

I love to go to Point Dume when I want to spend time on a more secluded and private beach in Malibu. I love how this beach is at the base of the Malibu cliffs. There are a few surfers out there and a few swimmers. Other than that, it’s just a few other people, the sand, the sun, the ocean, and beautiful Malibu,

I didn’t have an umbrella, so I found shade underneath a palm tree :)

Mother/Daughter Dinner Date on Sunset Boulevard

I’m excited when my mom drives up and visits! We had only a few hours, so we went to dinner and after that we crossed the street to a cute cafe for an after dinner coffee.

First we enjoyed dinner at a French restaurant called Le Petit Four on Sunset Boulevard. It’s really nice to sit outside in wicker chairs, just like you’re in France! It’s like a France and Sunset Boulevard fusion. We both got French Onion Soup and I got a flourless chocolate cake which I loved :) The table right next to us ordered a chilled wine, placed on their table in a chilled bucket.

After that, we crossed the street to a cafe/restaurant called The Butcher, The Baker, The Cappuccino Maker. They have a large selection of different types of coffees, espressos, wines, and you can use almond milk in your latte…that’s how I like it :) I love this cafe has comfortable tables for people watching right on Sunset Boulevard. They also have a quiet courtyard with booths and beautiful trees to just relax, and a separate indoor cafe and separate restaurant room.

I ordered their rainbow latte with almond milk and my mom got an iced cappuccino to go. :)

The annual Chinese Lantern Festival by a Hanart Culture Production in Los Angeles takes place during the holidays and lasts about a month. It’s held outside, at night, and is super cute and fun to enjoy a latte or coffee and stroll around with friends/family and view the bright, colorful, handmade Chinese lanterns.

Each lantern is handmade using the art of Chinese Lantern Making, dating back to 2,000 years ago. The vibrant, bright, delicate lanterns can reach up to 30 feet high and up to 85 feet wide!

There are also a few food trucks that come, traditional Chinese shows, such as an authentic Chinese puppet show and holiday lantern displays with Santa Claus :)
